download firefox 3

Firefox 3 comes out today! Or so their site says. I can't wait to download it! I have seen it in beta and it seems to work very well. I like the zoom feature alot. I hope they have fixed some of the memory leaks as well that I have been noticing in some of the latest versions. Or maybe that is just me.

The newest version will most likely not effect much in our world, but we will have another browser to test until most of the Firefox 2.x browsers are upgraded. We did find one or two items with upgrading to the Scriptaculous library from 1.6.1 to 1.8.0 which worked in the FF 3 beta browser, but broke things in the FF 2.x browser. So, yeah, we'll have to test with both for a while.

Make sure to pledge to download Firefox 3 and help them break a world record!

UPDATE: The downloads can begin at 10AM PDT!

Download Day 2008

ftp client for firefox

I have used the infamous WS_FTP client since I was in college. It was stable (for the most part) but you always had to wiggle your way around the licensing, and now they are charging for the "Pro" edition.

So I went looking for a different FTP client. I stumbled on Leach FTP. I used it for a while, but didn't really like the interface. I know, I know, how can you mess up an FTP interface? Well, anyway, Leach didn't do it for me.

A few weeks ago I downloaded FireFTP, an FTP client for FireFox. It rocks! I really like that it is just a plugin for FireFox and I don't have to open another application to do the uploads for my hosted sites. The interface is very nice. You can also save your FTP sites/servers for easy reuse. I am getting hooked on FireFox plugins!

multiple internet explorers

Because Microsoft made so many changes to Internet Explorer 7, my team had to find a way to test using IE 5.5 and IE 6. We have a few computers set up to test on, but we wanted to be able to test using our own computers.

So, after some searching, one of our developers found this great little application called Multiple IEs. It allows you to load and use Internet Explorer versions all the way back to 3.0. So, no longer are you tied to one version of IE on your machine!

You can get more information about Multiple IEs from TredoSoft or you can download the 10.3MB installer directly here.

Kinda makes me wonder why Microsoft didn't come up with this first...

coldfire coldfusion plugin for firefox

I just downloaded and installed this great plugin for FireFox and ColdFusion called ColdFire. It piggybacks on the FireBug plugin for FireFox and gives ColdFusion debugging information in that window, rather than mess up your styling on your sites/applications. It works pretty well.

One thing the documentation could add is for multi-server (instance) installs of ColdFusion, the path to put the debug.cfm in is [JRunInstallPath]\servers\[servername]\cfusion.ear\cfusion.war\WEB-INF\debug. The documentation only shows for single server install.

What ColdFire shows is: - General Information - Templates - Queries - CFTRACE - CFTIMER

Some things I have found is that I use alot of div callouts in my applications and the information in ColdFire does not change when they are called. Also, I noticed if I do any redirects using <cflocation> the information (queries, etc.) is lost, but I guess that is to be expected.

All in all, this is a cool plugin! Kudos to Raymond Camden and Adam Podolnick for this great plugin!
